Racer's Notes

Last Updated:  22 July 2008

1.  It's HOT!  Drink lots of water the day before the race to make sure your body is prepared.  Sip water the morning of the race and take a water bottle on your bike for the bike portion of the race.  There will be water and Gatorade next to the transition area during/after the race and there will be water on the run course.

2.  Get a good night's sleep before the race.  The morning of the race - eat something so your body has some fuel for the race.  Bananas and bagels are good to eat - about an hour before the race.

3.  SWIM:  The swim will start in waves.  2 racers per lane with 6 lanes = 12 racers at once.  When you leave the pool, walk through the gate into the grass and the transition area.   We will have kick boards for the younger athletes during the swim (if needed).  Ask one of the volunteers before you start the swim.

4.  BIKE:  REVIEW THE MAPS and ride the bike course if you get a chance before the day of the race.  There is a Mount / Dismount Line by the path - walk out of the transition area with your bike then mount by the path.  Same thing coming back - dismount the bike by the path and walk back into the transition area.  ALSO - The 11 and up racers are required to complete one lap out at the turn around of the bike - REVIEW THE MAP.   There will be a race official on the course to mark the racer's hand to show they completed the required distance (they will mark your hand when you turn around to complete the second lap).

REVIEW THE BIKE COURSE MAP!

5.  RUN:  Depart the transition area and head through the tunnel to the path.  When you return through the tunnel the finish line will be to your left in the parking lot by the circle.  When you are finished a volunteer will tear off the bottom of your number to confirm your finish position.

6.  Packet Pick-up is on Friday, August 15th from 6-8pm at the pool.  The packet will have your race number, coupons and other fun stuff.

7.  Race Number.  You will get 4 pins with your number.  You need to have the number displayed while biking and running.  Consider wearing a shirt during the bike and run portions so you can pin your number to your shirt the night before and just throw it on after the swim.  REMEMBER:  DO NOT PIN THE BOTTOM TEAR-OFF PORTION OF THE NUMBER.  That portion will be removed at the finish line... so we don't want it pinned to your shirt!

8.  Body Marking.  On the morning of the race, get your bike and gear situated in the transition area then move to the body marking area.  Your number will be written on your arms and your age on your right calf.  When you are racing you will be able to identify your competition by looking at their age on their calf... and if you can read their number... they are still in front of you!!

9.  PARENTS:  This is a USAT Sanctioned event - which means you CANNOT ASSIST your Triathlete!  If you believe they may need assistance let a volunteer know and the volunteer can assist them in the transition area and while they are on the course.

Speaking of assistance:  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS ON THE DAY OF THE RACE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF YOUR TRIATHLETE ON THE COURSE - ESPECIALLY ON THE BIKE COURSE.  Please let someone know at packet pick-up that you will assist with this great event and cause.
